Curing Psoriasis - 7 Golden Rules of Dealing With Psoriasis

Golden rules are rules that one should always keep in mind and never forget. They are very important and useful guideposts to keep us on track and headed in the right direction.

Dealing with psoriasis is an ongoing challenge. You must maintain a balance between treating symptoms and avoiding new outbreaks on the one hand and living your life in a reasonable manner on the other. Here are the 7 golden rules of dealing with psoriasis:

1. Get a good diagnosis. This means either get the considered opinion of a dermatologist or other specialist and/or study the factors involved and make your own diagnosis. The basis for treating and curing psoriasis starts with the getting the best diagnosis possible. Every case of psoriasis is different, there is no "one size fits all". Understand YOUR case, the probable causes, characteristics and how it develops and cycles.

2. Identify what causes your outbreaks. Different people's outbreaks are triggered by different things. Know what triggers yours, then take steps to remove, change or avoid whatever is triggering your episodes and outbreaks.

3. Maintain good mental health. Stress is frequently a causative or triggering factor. Avoid stress in your life and/or learn effective stress management techniques. Develop a healthy, positive attitude. Avoid depression, feeling helpless, feeling sorry for your self. Take charge of your life/situation, think positively and do all you can, then relax and go with the flow.

4. Healthy diet with calcium and Vitamin D. Eat healthy, avoid processed foods, white flour and sugar products. The psoriasis diet is fish and fowl, vegetables, whole grain products raw and natural foods. Take supplements. Give your body all the ammunition and materials it needs to stay as healthy as possible. Calcium deficiencies have been linked to psoriasis. Make sure you get plenty of calcium and the corresponding amount of Vitamin D to make sure your body can absorb and use calcium.

5. Moisturize and care for your skin. Bathe in tepid (not hot) water, use moisterizing creams right after bathing to lock in the moisture. Drink plenty of liquids to moisturize your body inside as well as outside. Moisturize frequently during the day, avoid letting your skin dry out. Be vigilant in avoiding dry skin.

6. Control your environment; temperature and humidity. Find your optimal room temperature to avoid outbreaks and arrange your thermostats accordingly. Monitor the temperature and relative humidity in your home and office or workplace. Keep these at optimal levels for avoiding outbreaks.

7. Avoid too much sun, other conditions that dry the skin. Sunburn, windburn excessive dryness all damage the skin and can trigger outbreaks. Avoid all of these as much as possible.

Follow these golden rules of dealing with psoriasis and you will find your life easier, your outbreaks less frequent and your psoriasis under optimal control. Control and prevention are the best medicines for psoriasis...
